Whats Next for the Show
Update to follow... Posted on 08-13-2008 @ 09:46:29PM Update to follow shortly.. A goodbye to our 93.7 Listener's Posted on 08-17-2008 @ 11:05:23AM Thank You. From the bottom of my heart and the top of my mind I thank each and everyone of you that listened, learned and laughed with me for the past two years. When I came to Palm Springs over two years ago I had three goals: to enlighten, to entertain, and to educate. At the same time I was in a ratings war against two worthy opponents, Mark & Brian (who I had replaced on 93.7) and Adam Corolla. Both these programs have incredible six figure budgets and corporate backing which gave them access to the top guests and writers. As for me, I had my wits and the help of my Producer (John) and my good friend and stage manager, Tank. We had no corporate backing, no six figure budgets, we had managers who didn’t understand the impact and relationship of our program. We had a sales staff that didn’t regard the program as worthy of being sold. No matter how hard I tried to share my vision, they didn’t get it. So without their help we did our show, performed to the best of our ability. No six figure budgets, no corporate backing. Two years pass and the end result: We beat them. We won! We did it! According to the ratings, we had double the audience of both my competitors in our demographic (18 - 34 males) we had done everything possible to bring the station into the community and the community into the station. We became friends, you and I. We shared our confessions, we shared advice. We tested out products for consumer awareness. We warned each other of traps along the commute. We laughed. Sometimes we cried. Each day we learned. Each day we grew. Not as program and listener but as people. People who understand that respect is earned and not freely given, that hard work will be rewarded, and that loyalty goes much farther than you’d think. There are some people I do want to thank, First off, my two partners in this adventure, Tank & Producer John. Big thanks going to Ant Dog who had the foresight to hire me after I was displaced for 8 months by Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. A special thanks to Mistress Blondie, Gagball Boy, the Amazing Stinky Pinky, Lorena Simon and every intern that ever came through my studio and of course the college that provided them (C.O.D.). Thank you to everyone who participated in my Monday Night Football Party, the bets, the games, the shots…. Remember the shots? Probably not, I don’t remember all of them either! What about the Palm Springs Power, if you attended any game this past season, it was Tank and myself handling games and mic duties on the field. I was also there with you at the MMA fights, I feel lucky to have been apart of bringing that great sport out to the desert. I am also appreciative of those that helped as we collected supplies for the victims of the Wildfires. Know that I had no backing on that one, management had a monetary goal, I wanted to give relief right then - you made that possible, you donated what was needed for those affected to feel loved, needed, and respected. Toys for Tots also received help, the first year we participated we beat our collection goal by hundreds of toys. In that same vein thanks for helping out Martha’s Kitchen as well. Together you and I did some great work out here. Together we made a difference. But now I must go. The reason… I don’t know, I had great ratings (better than my competition) and an audience that was active and caring. We were told it was for budget reasons, I think it was more personal than that. So the remaining questions are, “Am I going to continue to allow this force feeding of complacency? Am I going to continue to toil in mediocrity?” I refuse to. And I implore you to do the same. Stand up, Free Think, Share. Those that can’t take responsibility don’t deserve responsibility. And as for Tank, John and myself. We’ll be fine. I had a great time sharing with you for the past two years. Together we grew up a little and part of growing up is growing apart. So as I go off in search of my next city, I shall leave you with this: My name is Jace Edwards and I am the Self-Proclaimed Radio God, watch for me in the future, but for now I must move on. Thank you for your time and the kind words you have given, and know that my appreciation is sincere. I will miss you all. Jace. …and no, I won’t tell you who the dead guy is… yet. (Cover this Desert Sun!) CAGE SIDE IN PALM DESERT by Jace Edwards In the past 4 months I have been fortunate enough to serve as ring announcer for several different caged events. Last night I was in Palm Desert with the ROJO Pankration Fights. Hundreds crowded into the Palm Desert Athletic Club to watch 7 amateur match ups. Many different styles were represented from brazilian jui jitsu to kickboxing to wrestling. The crowd was also treated to some electrifying covers from local band Behind The Lies (myspace.com/behindthelies). There were tap outs, slams, and nail biters. Referee Ernie Gonzalez kept the action going inside the cage while favorites like 19 year old Curran Hubbard, who fought out of the hometown Roll Dog Soldiers, emerged victorious to thunderous applause and cheers. Local surfer turned cage fighter Robert Abbott also emerged victorious. The night ended with an iron man style battle between the \"Kansas Boy\" Patrick Glenn Faulkner and two different opponents. Unfortunately he had lost both match ups by decision but was well admired as he finished his second match with San Diego\'s Matt Furr, a wrestler that came in at 240 pounds to \"Kansas Boy\'s\" 180 pound frame. Overall the action was packed, the live music was great and I can\'t say enough about that announcer... Support your local fighters in this growing and popular sport and get ready for more action in October. Special thanks to Kurt Rojo for nurturing a sport that deserves our attention. Posted on 09-13-2008 @ 01:37:21PM Throughout life we seem to adopt certain roles. The big brother, the little sister, the aunt, the uncle, the teacher, the student. All roles. The worker, the management, the public servant, the selfish person. All roles. What role do you choose? It\'s all a choice. I could choose to be a construction worker again, or maybe going back to the role of pool player. Either way it is my choice. No one forces you to be or not be something. We force ourselves. Roles do come with sacrifice. I chose the role of my industry and the sacrifice is that of occasional unemployment and relocation. My mother chose the role of public servant and has sacrificed many hours for other peoples needs. Every role must have rewards otherwise no one would fill them, right? But what about the roles filled that aggravate us? The Officer giving a ticket, the authority figure at work breathing down our necks, or what about the person in the fast food drive thru. Look at the people around us and ask what roles do they play? Then consider that maybe their actions are not defined by their personality alone, maybe they are just fulfilling a role. Better yet, what roles have you filled lately? Here‘s a lost pic from in studio during our acoustic moshpit Posted on 09-13-2008 @ 01:47:18PM

Posted on 10-14-2008 @ 01:37:48PM It was Thursday night. The competition in the air created an atmosphere that bred heart, determination and courage. 12 matches were scheduled, I was the host. The crowd was ready and the music exploded at concert levels. The lights shown bright, I began my opening speech and the show had begun. Battle after battle. Submission hold to bloodied knock out, the action raged on. Fighter after fighter came out and put it all on the line. Determination, courage, heart, they all had it. For some, it was just not their night. For others, they rose to the occasion and proved without a doubt that their arm deserved to be lifted up victoriously in the end. All in all the fights did not disappoint. There was only one decision that the audience questoned, but overall Apocalypse II: The Second Coming was a great success.

Voting and your friends... Posted on 10-19-2008 @ 09:04:57PM Like me, you have probably recieved the emails about either Obama, McCain, or both. Now regardless what your point of view is, you have more than likely recieved an email from someone on your friends list that represents a cross section that you do not agree with. For example, I recieved an email where the -facts- being displayed were all but factual. The tone of the message was ignorant and insulting. I would even say that this mass forwarded email was even a bit racist in parts, but my friend thought it viable enough to forward to me. Now I don\'t consider myself a closed minded person. I am open to the views and expressions of others and I have a firm belief that I spent my time in the Marine Corps defending others rights to freedoms including that of speech. Even if the message does not agree with my views, I try and see the topic from another point of view, but the hate mongering that is seeping from todays politicians and their supporters is overwhelming. So what do we do? Do I continue to allow the emails to penetrate my in box? Do I send back a reply stating my take on their -facts- or do I look at the individual differently for taking such extreme or ignorant views? We have an obligation in society to call B---S--- when we see it. We also have the right to spread any information, no matter how false or one-sided, to anyone in the country. But we also have the right to enlighten. Look at the -facts- then look at their sources. Contrast and compare. Read between the lines and do not be afraid to say what is on your mind. Like you we all have friends who often do not agree with us and like you, we all have to do our part to ensure that this country is not ruined by ignorance.
With that said, trip on this: McCain has the same advisors that Bush had to get him in the White House. Bush lied, cheated and stole an election and turned a large surplus into a huge debt. That is like getting married to a gold digger who keeps digging even after the gold runs out. It\'s time for a divorce. A divorce from the Republican agenda, a seperation from the secular fundementals that are confining our lives and ruining the great ideal of America. It is time for change and as cliche as it sounds, between McCain and Obama, I believe Obama represents the change we need. Now if you have decided to vote for a candidate because they like fruit loops and you do too, please, Do Not Vote. But if you have made a decision based on the facts and not just Fox News, then please do your part and cast your ballot. November 4th will be a defining moment for this country, what that definition is, is yet to be seen. Floater in San Diego & The Valleys Music Scene. Posted on 10-20-2008 @ 12:19:01AM Over the years I have had the chance to see hundreds of bands on every kind of stage. I have also made it a personal mission to expose as many new and local bands to as many people I can. Over the years a few bands have caught my attention and I have brought them to many different audiences across the country. One of these bands is FLOATER . Floater is a band that emerged from the Eugene, Oregon music scene in the 90s. A three piece that takes you on an audio voyage that often leads into your own emotions. Introspective lyrics that deal with your personal relationships and desires. Musically this band is a tribal beat down of ethereal movements with the aggressive backbone of rhythm. Rob is the lead singer/bassist and his vocals mesh perfectly with the musical web weaved by Dave (guitar) and Pete (drums).
Recently I had the opportunity to get caught up with a band I had not seen in 10 years. They played in San Diego at Winstons (on Bacon Street) last week and I was amazed. 10 years ago I had met a band that was described as the bastard child of Pink Floyd and Pantera. Then they were stagnant on stage, three members all standing (or drumming) in their own little world, oblivious to the crowd that surged and waned before them. But now, these same three guys have a commanding presence on stage. Before, Rob would stand and deliver his intricate bass lines and vocals with a statue like stage presence. I always thought that they performed amazingly well, but lacked in stage commandment. Now I eat those thoughts with crow pie for dessert. Rob, Dave and Pete were all present in their performance last week. This is a band that has the unique sound and talent to take their career to the next level. Many people that night came away with the knowledge that they are the privileged audience that was shown what music could be. I had the chance to bring Floater to Palm Springs when I was doing my morning show, unfortunately you can count that as another thing my operations manager killed. The valley is starving for local venues, many are available in the casinos but few cater to the local or budding scene. I did my part exposing bands with my acoustic moshpit series and the numerous shows I co-created or hosted, but now I call on you to continue the mission. Know a band that deserves a chance? Let the Rock Yard (Fantasy Springs Casino) know about them. Are you a fan of a band that has not made it to the world of commercial radio? Let them know in calls and letters. Emails are a wonderful thing too. There are countless bands on the internet that are looking for opportunities. There are countless fans in the valley looking for venues to cater to them. Let them know what you want. Believe me, they are looking for ways to get you into their casino. Support your local music scene or it will whither away like spring break in Palm Springs. ![]() Attention GMs and PDs - HAVE HEADPHONES WILL TRAVEL! Now That The Decision Has Been Made... Posted on 11-05-2008 @ 12:40:30AM It is time to stop the bickering and start the working together. We all have an obligation to move forward. Look around. What can you do... in your neighborhood... in your city... for your state?
In my neighborhood I can take a walk and carry an extra trashbag to pick up a few pieces of litter. In my city I can patronize a hurt economy - visit a corner store and buy something, anything as long as I patronize them and give them a little business... In my state I can voice my opinion to my government - do you not like something? Have a suggestion? Write a letter, send it to the Governator! Now is the time to make change happen, it will not happen on its own. Now is also the time to stand up for what we believe in. Now is the time to evolve. I pledge to do my part, from helping keep my streets in Rancho Mirage cleaner to patronizing the local corner store to voicing my opinion about what I see as wrong and unjust. The problems we have are fixable, we just need to step up and realize that we are better than our forefathers and the world we were given can be made into the world of our visionaries. I am one of those with a vision and if you will pledge, like me, to look around and do your part then we\'ll all benefit. This is change. This is the future. The future is now. Coming Soon... Problems in Techno Paradise Posted on 02-07-2009 @ 10:47:13AM So last night I hosted the Apocalypse Fight Championships at the Spotlight 29 Casino in Indio. 14 fights total with yours truly in the cage handling mic duties. For those that remembered my radio program out here and shouted, Jace Edwards Rocks! at the event... Thank You! So here is the update on what is going on... new station? In talks (still) - I had lost an opportunity up north because Clear Channel dropped 9% of its nationwide work force thus forcing my potential employer to go for the cheapest morning show they could find. My computer crashed (hopefully it is repairable) so the podcasting has been put on hold until I can get it fixed. And to top it all off my adopted father is undergoing some serious medical stuff up north. I went up there (thanks to Tanks 17 hour driving) and sat with him in the hospital for a few days... he is getting stronger, but he is not out of the woods yet. So to recap... my dad... not doing well, but fighting the toughest fight of his life. Podcasts... On Hold Fights... went well Chill Baseball Games... each weekend through Feb. look for me hosting on the field New Station... In Talks... when... ??? So thats a quick note, hope you are doing well in this tough economy, thanks for checking back, we will put up some pictures as soon as I can. Thanks Again for Rockin with us!
